As someone who has worked helping homeless people, I find this tasteless and insensitive. I understand this is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it still makes a mockery of those who sleep in the streets due to circumstance.

Do you know my past?
Do you know what means working without be payed for months?
Do you know how much insensitive material is present on blogs?
BTW I understand what you feel, please apologize me if I hurt your taste.

No, I don’t know your past, yes I’ve worked without pay, and yes, the internet if full of tasteless insensitive material. I’m not trying to police the web for nasty material. I just decided to comment on my reaction to your post. No need to apologize, I’m sure I’ll survive. 🙂

The reason that donations doesn’t work is because those asking for donations don’t put a target amount.
If you had put target amount like this: “I need to buy a PC to continue developing my software. I need X dollars/euros/whatever. Please donate! Thank you.”
Then you need to advertise it. Engage with your users.
Most users don’t know the developers. They go the website, download the app and that’s it.
Engage with them, give them a face, someone that they can empathize.
Donations can work, just look to Blender and Wikipedia.
